Dubai, August 16: The unintentional inhalation of fumes or other health-related incidents such as accidental vomiting or bleeding in the throat or mouth do not result in ending the fast during Ramadan.
The fast continues to be valid and the person facing such a situation does not need to make up for the day of fasting, according to an edict (Fatwa) by the Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD).
Unintentional
During fasting, one can face incidents such as the unintentional inhalation of gasoline fumes and the sensation of swallowing them, unintentional passing of water in the throat, wounds, bleeding in the throat or vomiting. All these situations do not corrupt the fast, said IACAD.

The Fatwa is based on Prophet Mohammad’s (PBUH) statement: “Whoever accidentally vomits, does not have to make up for the day of fasting, and whoever makes himself vomit intentionally, must make up for the day of fasting.”
The Fatwa is the recent in a series of Fatwas aimed at helping Muslims find answers to their questions concerning fasting.
It also goes on to explain the ruling regarding bleeding in the throat, as sometimes people may suffer from a condition in which blood often comes out of their throat or mouth.
