ACB spl judge remands Municipal commissioner to judicial custody

Vijayawada, November 06: The Special Police Establishment (SPE) and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) cases judge, Vijayawada today remanded Machilipatnam Municipal Commissioner P Satyaveni and her husband Veeraanjaneya Prasad to 14-day judicial custody on charges of accepting Rs 5000 as bribe from a suspended junior assistant to submit a report to the regional director of municipal administration in his favour.

Talking to UNI here tonight, ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police Rama Uma Maheswara Sharma said the duo were produced before the special judge Chandrasekharan earlier in the day who sent them to judicial custody till November 18.

He said the accused have been sent to district jail here.

The ACB sleuths led by Mr Sharma raided the residence of Ms Satyaveni and arrested the couple yesterday for accepting the bribe.

Earlier Satyaveni suspended Buddhala Venkateswara Rao, a junior assistant working in Kota Municipal high school on October 7 as the latter was absent from duties without taking prior permission.

The Municipal Commissioner sent the report to the regional director (RD) of Municipal administration and the RD had asked the commissioner to probe the issue and submit a report.

The junior assistant alleged that the commissioner had demanded Rs 10,000 from him to give a report in his favour to the regional director for taking back for work.

However, Mr Rao had given Rs 5,000 bribe to the Commissioner’s husband as sought by her and was caught redhanded by the ACB officials.
