ACB searches on retired IAS officer

Hyderabad, April 07: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials today conducted searches on the house of a retired IAS officer in the city following an order by an ACB court. The searches were conducted on the Jubilee Hills residence of D Suryanarayana Murthy today evening.

According to sources, a relative of Murthy lodged a complaint with the ACB court alleging that the official amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income The petitioner alleged that the retired IAS officer amassed wealth amounting to more than Rs 100 crore.

Murthy retired from service five years back. As per service rules, the ACB can take up any enquiry against an official within four years of his retirement.

However, the ACB took up the case of Murthy as per the court orders, sources said.

Officials, however, said it would be difficult for them to prove the allegations against the official who worked in endowments and fisheries department in senior positions.

Officials said they would verify the properties acquired by Murthy before 2005 and also bank statements before his retirement. Searches went on till late in the night but the officials said they did not seize any documents.
