ACB court convicts 3 Government officers

Hyderabad, April 22: Three government officers were convicted and sentenced to imprisonment and asked to pay fine in Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) trap cases.

An ACB court in Visakhapatnam convicted and sentenced the senior assistant in the office of the District Educational Officer, Vizianagaram district, M Ramam, to undergo one year rigorous imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 in a trap case, an official release said.

Raman was trapped by the ACB officials in 2004 when he took Rs 8,000 bribe from a Secondary Grade Teacher of Purryavalasa village in Cheepurupalli mandal to regularise his suspension period.

Meanwhile, the former panchayat secretary, K Subba Reddy and sarpanch, B Chinna Sivaiah, of Gorantla village in Guntur village were convicted and sentenced to undergo one year simple imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs 2,000 by an ACB court in Vijayawada.

Earlier, they were trapped by the ACB officials in 2005 when they took a bribe of Rs 7,000 from Sripathi Veeramani, the manager of Guntur-based industry, Parameswari Industries, for approval of the building plan for construction of a dal mill in the Industrial Estate of Gorantla village in Guntur.
