Academic exchanges proposed between MANUU & Saudi Universities

Prof. Mohammad Miyan, Vice-Chancellor today proposed Academic exchange programme between Maulana Azad National Urdu University & Saudi Universities. In his presidential address during the inaugural session of 2-day national seminar on “Teaching Arabic Language in India: Curricula and Scope for Promotion”, he said, University could start credit based exchange for students from MANUU & Saudi Universities, with the approval of Govt. of India. He requested Dr. Ali Mohd. Al-Shehri, Cultural Attache, Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, New Delhi, to facilitate in this regard.

Dr. Al-Shehri, Chief Guest of the session in his address responded positively to the idea of academic exchange between Indian Universities offering Arabic Courses & Their Saudi Counterparts. He identified King Abdullah Centre for Arabic, Riyadh as an appropriate institution in Saudi Arabia to take initiative. Describing Hyderabad as Centre for Islamic Culture in India, Saudi Diplomat regarded Islam as the underlying force behind the popular usage of Arabic among Muslims all over the world. Learning of Arabic is necessitated to comprehend Quranic Teachings & Prophet Mohammad’s message. Arabic is treated as a local language in Sub-Continent, he remarked. There are many scholars from this part of the world who are quiet well known in the Arabic Literary World. Govt. of India is providing Arabic Education in 20 Central Universities through UGC.

Prof. Zubair Ahmed Farooqui, Former Head Dept. of Arabic, JMI, Delhi, in his keynote address described Arabic as 5th largest spoken language in the world. He expressed his displeasure over the present Arabic Teaching system in India. Arabic students should be prepared keeping in view the demands & requirements of the prevailing market, he opined. Radical reforms are required to upgrade and streamline the prevailing System.

Prof. Abdul Moiz, HoD, Arabic welcomed the gathering which includes prominent scholars & Teachers from different Parts of the Country.
