New Delhi, July 16: Commuters of Kolkata Metro can look forward to travelling in air-conditioned coaches soon.
The first AC rake is expected to go on trial soon, Railways said today.
“The first AC rake is expected to arrive soon and the trial run would commence thereafter to check all its safety parameters,” said a senior Railway official, indicating the rake would be inducted into service within two months.
Kolkata Metro, the first Metro in the country running under the aegis of Indian Railways, will get 13 AC rakes, each of them comprising eight coaches. The rakes have been manufactured by ICF Perambur.
The official said they have enhanced performance level, a much more contemporary look and make less noise than the existing coaches.
The new rakes will replace the ageing non-AC rakes, in operation since early 1980s, in phases, the official said.
