‘Abuji, please forgive me’: Kashmiri militant son’s last phone call to family, goes viral

SRINAGAR: A parting phone conversation between a father and his dying militant son during a fierce gun battle in Shopian on Sunday has gone viral on social media across Valley.

In a nearly six-minute audio released, Eitmaad Hussain Dar pleads with his father to forgive him, Hindustan Times reported on Saturday.

“Logsaya (may I perish for you), I couldn’t fulfil my promise. Now I can’t tell it,” Eitmaad can be heard telling his father in the audio released.

“I’m trapped. If I made any mistakes, please forgive me,” Eitmaad tells his father while weeping, who responds saying, “I too had to make a pious promise to you. It was for your and our good.”

The father urged him to “remain steadfast and have patience”. “I won’t tell you to surrender. I can’t tell you that,” he said. Eitmaad responded, “No, no…” and adds, “Abu ji, I just want you to be pleased with me and God will also be happy with me.”

When father ask his son whether there are any chances of him escaping with wails of women are heard in the house, the son replies:

“We tried a lot to escape but we couldn’t. Abrar bhai (another militant) is injured,” The father then says, “Keep courage. You were God’s gift to me and are returning to him.”

26-year-old Eitmaad, an MPhil degree holder and junior research fellow is a resident of Amshipora in Kashmir’s Shopian had joined the Hizbul Mujahideen militant group last November.
