Gangster Abu Salem, an accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, is living a lavish life at the Taloja jail in Navi Mumbai near here, according to the report submitted by a senior official. “In my five-page report submitted to the authorities month and a half ago, I have mentioned the ways the gangster is enjoying his prison stay, his attitude towards the jail authorities, his parties for other inmates and his unnecessary hospital visits,” Hiralal Jadhav, the jail superintendent, said.
On August 14, Salem, in an affidavit before the special TADA court here which is conducting the blasts case trial, had alleged that Jadhav had tortured him. An inquiry was initiated and the probe is still underway.
Jadhav claimed that Salem made these allegations out of grudge as the superintendent had put an end to his illegal activities inside the jail.
Inquiry regarding his report on Salem’s prison life was on, he added.
