Abu Dhabi, January 05: The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) opened the door today for registration in the second session of its annual photography competition to coincide with Al Dhafra festival, to kick off January 30 to February 8 in Madenat Zayed in Al Gharbia (the Western Region) under the patronage of General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
The competition reflects ADACH belief in the value of photographs as living documents that transfer real events and archives them into a sense of aesthetic sensitivity, and which add to the traditional value of the festival’s artistic dimensions, and aesthetic magical visions.
The competition is part of the Emirates photography contest organized by ADACH and supervised by the Abu Dhabi International Association of Photography.
The competition is designed to achieve a set of goals, notably to boost the photography movement in the UAE, create grater communication between the generations, increase environmental awareness, revive interests in heritage in line with technological, artistic and cultural developments, and shed light on the Bedouin community and their patterns of life.
Participants are expected to highlight the daily events of Al Dhafra Festival with creative high-quality images. Present artistic images that depict the beauty of camels and their relationships with humans show the environment of the festival and the beauty of nature in the region that surrounds it.
The first place winner will be given a 20,000 dirhams prize, the second place winner will be awarded 15,000 dirhams, the third place winner will be given 12,000 dirhams and fourth place winner will be given 10,000 dirhams, in addition to incentive prizes and certificates of recognition to distinguished participations.
Participants are entitled to participate with up to 5 photographs. The deadline for accepting and submission is February 15, 2010. Only photos taken at Al Dhafra festival are accepted. The competition is open for photographers resident in UAE only, whether professionals or amateurs.
Photographs must be submitted in the form of digital files on CD or DVD, and sent by mail with forms completed in English to the competition’s address. Name and address of the photographer should be visible on each CD. Photos must be in JPG format only, with quality of no less than 300 DPI.
