Abu Dhabi Art to bring together 50 galleries

Abu Dhabi, May 08: Art collectors, dealers, critics and artists will be back in Abu Dhabi for the annual Abu Dhabi Art (ADA) to be held from November 4 to November 7. Not just the art fair, but an art exhibition too. The ADA will bring together about 50 art galleries from the Middle East, Asia, Europe, America and Australia.

Apart from the main Galleries Sector, ADA will also have a Signiture Sector, in the form of several small booths for one-person show, meant to introduce emerging artists to the international art world.

Also, the Beyond Sector will give galleries the opportunity to exhibit large size artworks and sculptures outdoors, around the grounds of Emirates Palace, where the show is traditionally held.

“Abu Dhabi Art is part of a larger programme designed to continue Abu Dhabi’s efforts in enriching the cultural life,” said Shaikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, chairman of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage and Tourism, Development and Investment Company, organisers of the show.

Alongside the exhibitions, a full programme of lectures and workshops will be held. The rather unique ‘Arts, Talks and Sensations’ show, which is now part of ADA, is also set to be back, with a theatrical-like production of on-stage interviews, art presentations, music, discussions, dance and live interviews.

ADA started in 2008 as Art Paris – Abu Dhabi, organised back then in partnership with the famous French art fair Art Paris. Last year, the name changed to Abu Dhabi Art, but the main concept remained. The big change though, was that a lot more galleries from around the world were invited, and the Middle East art was far better represented. The 50 participating galleries came from 19 different countries worldwide, and about 15,000 people visited the four-day ADA 2009.
