Absorb LPG price hike through subsidy: TDP

Hyderabad, June 27: The Telugu Desam Party on Saturday demanded that the state government immediately announce that it would absorb the Rs 35 per cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas rise.

Talking to media persons at the NTR Trust Bhavan, senior party leader and MLC, Nannapaneni Rajakumari said that the UPA government at the centre is acting on dictatorial lines.

She said that the Centre is taking advantage of the differences between the opposition parties and acting out its whims.

The firebrand TDP leader said that the UPA had come to power on the promise that it would not only curb the rising of prices but also reduce them. She said that after coming back to power, the UPA government has neglected the common man and gone back on its promises.

She said that the hike in cooking gas should be absorbed by the state government with the help of additional revenue it stands to gain through sales tax.

Ms Rajakumari warned that the TDP will resort to widespread agitations if the government does not absorb this price difference.

The TDP leader urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Union Cabinet and other Ministers to listen to the women in their own homes and then think of the plight of the poor.

She said that the hike in cooking gas prices will affect the lives of the common man.

Ms Rajakumari said that if the party tells her to campaign for the forthcoming by-elections in Telangana region, she will do so.
