Absconding Narayan Sai arrested from Punjab border

In a major breakthrough, the Gujarat and Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested self-styled godman Asaram Bapu’s absconding son Narayan Sai from the Punjab border where he was hiding with his close aides.

According to initial reports, Sai was arrested in a joint operation by the Gujarat, Punjab and Delhi Police. He has been taken to Delhi for interrogation.

Sai, who has been on the run for the past 58 days, has been arrested on charges of sexual assault.

The arrest, according to reports, was made by a team of the Delhi and Gujarat Police early this morning. The exact location of his arrest was not known immediately.

The police teams, including a special investigation team (SIT), also arrested four accomplices of Narayan Sai who were helping him avoid arrest for nearly two months.

The Gujarat and Delhi Police had been conducting raids all over the country in the last eight weeks to nab Narayan Sai, who has been on the run since a complaint of rape was filed against him in Surat, Gujarat, Oct 6.

The complaint was filed by a 30-year-old woman, who alleged that Narayan Sai raped her between 2001 to 2005.

The raids were conducted extensively in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.
