Ghaziabad, April 27: A transport officer, absconding in an abduction case, has surrendered before a court and was later sent to jail, police said here today.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer (Ghaziabad) Arjun Singh, absconding from December 2010 in an abduction case, surrendered yesterday before Bulandshar district court and was later sent to jail, they said.
Singh was allegedly involved in the abduction of 14 block members in Bulandshar ahead of the panchayat election in the district on December last year.
The members were abducted allegedly to ensure the victory of Singh’s wife who was contesting the election on BSP ticket.
Besides Singh, a case of abduction was registered against BSP MLA Guddu Pandit and 11 others.
Police had later arrested Pandit and some of the accused.
However, Singh absconded. He was later suspended due to his alleged involvement in the abduction case.
