Abrupt end to a brilliant run

Nalgonda, July 17: He dreamt big despite his humble family background, his father Parandhamulu is a toddy-topper and mother Vimala a housewife, and appeared almost set to make it come true when the cruel fate snuffed life out of this budding talent.

Pursuing his dreams with determination, Poojari Laxman secured admission in the presitigious International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at Basara.

His engineering classes are scheduled to start on July 19, but just a week before taking his fist step towards realising his dream to become an engineer, he died yesterday allegedly due to diarrhoea.

Laxman died allegedly due to callousness of the Institute authorities who failed to provide proper treatment to him though he had been suffering from diarrhoea for the past four days.

Friends and faculty remember him as a hard-working student. “He was a brilliant student but unfortunately had to die for no fault of his,” lamented Anil Kumar, a faculty member.

But for his parents, it was a loss of their future. “My son died due to negligence of the IIIT management and they would pay for it,” cursed Laxman’s mother Vimala.

She said Laxman called her on Thursday around 9 am and told her that he was unwell.

She immediately asked her elder son Vidyasagar to rush to Basara and ensure proper treatment for him.

But by 11.30 am, she received the ghastly news of Laxman’s death.

Expressing doubts over the death, she wanted a probe into it. “I spoke to him at 9 am and within three hours I received news of his death. If it was callousness of the officials, I want them to be punished,” she demanded. It was just a month ago, Laxman left for Basara after spending his summer holidays with the family.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended on tiny Tangutoor after the news of Laxman’s death broke. The boy became a household name in the village after he scored 540 out of 600 marks in the SSC examinations in 2008 and secured an admission in IIIT, the first to achieve that distinction from the ZP High School in the village.
