Former Police Constable Abdul Qadeer could be released under article 161 of the Constitution of India. Mr. Justice Markandey Katju, Chairman, Press Council of India mentioned it in a letter to Mr. E.S.L. Narasimhan, Governor of AP.
Mr. Zahid Ali Khan, Editor of Siasat Urdu Daily read out this letter on the occasion of All India Mushaira conducted by “Urdu Heritage Caravan”. He said that this letter would be handed over to the Governor and CM of AP today.
When Mr. Zahid Ali Khan was reading this letter, people raised slogans of “Katju Zindabad”.
When Mr. Zahid Ali Khan was invited to deliver his presidential address, he said that he would not offer his presidential remarks but would read the letter written by Justice Katju. Mentioning the two decades, Quadeer has spent in jail, Justice Katju wrote to the Governor that Qadeer has already completed 20 years of imprisonment. His one leg has been amputated and he is suffering from Diabetes and hence he should be released on humanitarian grounds. Reacting on the remarks of Justice Katju, people were full emotions and they shouted slogans.
