Abdul Kalam statue unveiled in Chennai Raj Bhavan

Tamil Nadu Governor Dr K. Rosaiah today unveiled a statue of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, former President, and paid floral tributes at Raj Bhavan in Chennai in commemoration with the National Science Day.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rosaiah said Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, was a people’s President, a missile scientist, who was a source of inspiration to the young children and the youth of the nation. He felt at home whenever he was in Raj Bhavan and he had the privilege of hosting him many times. As per the direction of the Governor, the statue of Dr Kalam was erected in Raj Bhavan.

The Governor said that Dr Kalam was a visionary, a compassionate human being whose mission was to create a knowledge society and it was a privilege to unveil his statue.

The bronze statue of Dr Kalam sculpted by Kishore Nagappa of Chennai is 6’2” tall and the Governor honored the sculptor with a shawl.

Moorthy, Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Physical Education & Sports University, K. Arumugam, Registrar, Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, DrVijayan, Registrar,  Tamil Nadu Open University, Industrialists  Voora Anjaneyalu, Nagi Reddy, K. Shankar Rao, M V Narayana Gupta, Vice President, All India Telugu Foundation, Tanguturi Ramakrishna, Former Senate Member, Periyar University, Staff of Raj Bhavan, Members of  Raj Bhavan Women Self Help Group, CRPF Personnel and other dignitaries paid Floral Tributes to the statute of Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam.

 Ramesh Chand Meena, IAS, Principal Secretary to Governor, thanked the Governor for his guidance in erection of Dr Kalam’s statue. D. Mohan, Deputy Secretary to Governor (Universities) and other officials and staff of Raj Bhavan, Chennai were present. (NSS)
