Abducted minor child rescued within hours

Jalandhar(Pun), January 15: A five-year-old child was allegedly abducted by a rickshaw puller but police, acting swiftly, rescued him within hours and arrested the accused.

Harmandeep Singh was abducted last night by the accused when his mother made him wait in a rickshaw before going to a temple in Guru Gobind Singh Avenue locality, S K Kalia, Superintendent of Police, told reporters here.

During investigation, it came to light that the rickshaw puller, Sarwan Singh (49), was a resident of Kishanpura locality and accordingly his premise was raided but it was found to be locked, he said.

Then it was learnt that the accused originally hailed from a village in Kapurthala district and accordingly a team of policemen went to the village and conducted raids at a few localities. They then managed to trace the boy and arrested the rickshaw pullar, Kalia said.
