Abbas says Israel response to peace calls ‘loud and clear’

Gaza, March 22: Acting Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas said Sunday Tel Aviv responds to international calls for the resumption of the stalled peace process with daily military buildup and killing Palestinians.

Abbas was quoted by his spokesman as saying that “the Israeli escalation and the killing of Palestinians on a daily basis is the actual response of the Israeli government to the Palestinians, the Arabs and to American (peace) efforts,” AFP reported.

The comments came after the recent killing of four Palestinians by Israeli forces in the occupied territories, where troops enlisted with the Israeli Defense Forces gunned down two Palestinians near the city of Nablus in the occupied West Bank on Sunday.

The soldiers also killed one Palestinian youth, fatally injuring another during a demonstration against an Israeli plan to expand settlements in the occupied lands in a West Bank village on Saturday.

Tel Aviv refuses to meet the Palestinian condition for resuming peace talks by enforcing a permanent and complete freeze on its illegal settlement.
