Puducherry, February 24: An abandoned bag, suspected to be containing explosives, was found lying outside the railway station here today, creating panic among the people.
Metal detectors were used to check the contents of the bag and police lifted the bag in a jeep to an open site in Uppalam near the station, police said.
As it was getting dark, police decided to check the bag and its contents tomorrow morning.
All precautionary steps were taken. A five feet-deep pit was dug at the open site and the bag was placed inside it. The bomb detection and disposal squad of Tamil Nadu police would arrive tomorrow to check the contents, the sources said.
An auto driver had noticed the abandoned gunny bag and informed police.
Puducherry has been on high alert after the Union Home Ministry recently warned of a possible terror attack.
