Aaram Ghar: a home for the homeless

Hyderabad, November 2: An old age home named “Aaram Ghar” has been established in Hyderabad for the homeless and elderly people facing discountenance of their dear ones.
The ‘Aaram Ghar’ had been set up in Karwan on October 2, 1957. The first prime minister of the independent India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had inaugurated it and now it is located on 16 acre vast land at Shivrampally cross roads. The founder of the Aaram Ghar was late Roda Mistry who belonged to Parsi religion. She was a great social worker and an MP and was very close to Muslims.

Presently there are 60 women and 55 men in Aaram Ghar of which 14 are Muslim. They are all aged above 50. Some of them are mentally ill and the remaining have made Aaram Ghar their abode, disappointed by their young children. Majority of them who have come here are fed up with the quarrels between Daughter in law and Mother in law or Father in law or the disobedience of their sons or daughters in law. They are staying here for years and feel contented.

Answering a question Aaram Ghar superintendent Lal Basha said that the reason for less number of Muslims here is the teachings of Quran and Sunnah in which it has been commanded repeatedly to serve parents and their favours and their status have been mentioned in Quran and Hadeeth a number of times.

Aaram Ghar dwellers get food clothing and medicines free of charge. It needs more funds to take in more number of homeless persons.
