AAP’s allegations are without any evidence: BJP on EVM tampering

New Delhi [India]: Lashing out at the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) allegations of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) being tampered with, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday claimed that the former often has no evidence to support their claims.

Speaking to ANI here on Monday, BJP leader Shaina NC, lauding the efforts of the Election Commission of India, stated that it has worked in the ‘interest of democracy’.

“The EC needs to be appreciated for working independently, freely and in the interest of democracy. It is now clear that the EVMs were not tampered with,” she said.

Shaina further claimed that the AAP must now accept the BJP’s popularity in the political scenario.

“The AAP must now accept the fact that the BJP is now the most popular party under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” she added.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday advised the AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, to introspect about its ‘unsatisfactory poll performance’ in the assembly elections rather than attributing it to the alleged failure of the EVMs.

“It is for your party to introspect as to why your party could not perform as per your expectations and it is unfair on the part of your party to attribute unsatisfactory poll performance of your party to the alleged tamperability of EVMs. The Commission is fully satisfied with the tamper proof functioning of the ECI-EVMs,” the ECI said in a strongly-worded letter addressed to the AAP.

The letter further said that the Supreme Court had never cast any aspersion or expressed any doubt that election process was rigged by use of EVMs. Hence, the Commission “strongly objects to this wrong and imaginary extrapolation of the Supreme Court’s order. This may please be noted as a responsible political party.” (ANI)
