New Delhi: A meeting of the AAP National Executive on Somnath Bharti domestic violence case has begun at the official residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The meeting is expected to decide on the future of Bharti within the party.
The Aam Aadmi Party has of late distanced itself from Bharti, even as the police has intensified its search for absconding MLA, by questioning his brother Lokenath, sister Stuti and his personal assistant about his whereabouts.
The former Delhi law minister has been missing since Tuesday night after the Delhi High Court rejected his plea for bail over charges of attempting to murder his wife Lipika Mitra and trying to kill their unborn child.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Kejriwal signaled that Bharti should surrender and stop being on the run from the law.
He also asked Bharti as to why he was so scared of going to jail?
He also said that Bharti was becoming an embarrassment for the AAP and his family.
Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal also said that the Delhi High Court had made serious observations against Bharti and that he should stop playing hide and seek.
Bharti, who is currently underground, has moved the Supreme Court for anticipatory bail.
At least ten teams, including those from the Crime Branch and the Special Cell, are looking out for Bharti.
The police is keeping watch on visitors to Bharti’s house in Malviya Nagar and his brother’s house in Vasant Kunj.
Police officers have also texted Bharti to join the investigation.
There is speculation that Bharti might leave the national capital by Friday if the Supreme Court also rejects his plea for anticipatory bail.
He faces charges under Sections 313 (attempt to kill an unborn child) and 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (attempt to murder), among others. (ANI)
