AAP MLAs Surinder, Alka Lamba asked to cooperate in probes

New Delhi, Aug 11: AAP leader Sanjay Singh on Tuesday escorted party MLAs Surinder Singh and Alka Lamba, against whom separate FIRs have been registered, to the Delhi police headquarters (PHQ) where senior police officers told them to cooperate in the concerned probes at the respective police stations.

In a surprise move today evening, Sanjay reached PHQ along with Surinder and Lamba and met Police Commissioner B S Bassi and Senior Special Commissioner of Police Dipak Mishra.

Earlier, Sanjay said that he had promised Bassi that he will bring those partymen against whom FIRs are registered by the police.

“I had promised to Delhi CP, I will myself bring those against whom FIR is registered. In PHQ with Surinder and Alka Lamba,” he said in his tweet in Hindi.

“AAP MLAs and party leader Sanjay Singh met the officials who asked them to join the probe in the FIRs against them at respective police stations,” a senior police officer said.

An FIR has been registered against Delhi Cantt MLA Surinder and two others at Tughlaq Road police station for allegedly beating and manhandling an NDMC worker on August 4.

He was summoned by Tughlaq Road police for questioning but he never turned up before them.

A case of trespassing, damage to property and preventing government servant from discharging his duty was registered against Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba at Kashmere Gate police station yesterday on a complaint by traders there.

Lamba was injured when someone allegedly threw a stone at her during an anti-drug drive there on Sunday while a video clip emerged in which she was seen vandalising shops along with some of her supporters.

During about two-hour-long meeting, the AAP leaders were told that PHQ had no role in the investigation in the cases and were assured of a fair investigation, the officer said.

The leaders promised that Surinder will cooperate in the probe against him and also demanded action against BJP MLA O P Sharma for using “improper” words against Lamba, he said.

Surinder would be going to Tughlaq Road police station where he would be released after questioning without being arrested, the officer added.
