AAP govt inducts first woman driver of DTC

In a step taken to empower woman, the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government on Friday inducted 30-year-old V Saritha as the first woman driver of the Delhi Transport Corporation bus service.

Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai congratulated Saritha and said that the decision is likely to inspire and encourage other women to choose driving as a career

Saritha, who belongs to Telangana, has been currently been posted at Sarojini Nagar Depot and will be put on day-time duty at a route in the central part of the city.

Since a PSV badge is mandatory for performing line/bus duty, she was provided all possible help by the DTC authorities for obtaining the badge from from Transport Department, said the Delhi government press release.

Applications were invited from willing women candidates through advertisements published in leading newspapers. In response to this advertisement, seven applications were received. Out of these, five candidates turned up and after scrutiny of their documents, they were found eligible by the Screening committee constituted for this purpose.

The eligible five candidates were directed for medical examination by the DTC Medical Board. Out of these, one woman candidate namely Vankadarath Saritha was found medically fit.

After completing all pre-requisite(s) formalities, Vankadarath Saritha was directed to DTC Training School for imparting four week job-training as she is already having HTV driving license issued by RTA-Nalgonda.
