New Delhi: The AAP government today organised a one-day consultation workshop with eminent psychiatrists and NGOs from Delhi and across the country to discuss the operationalisation of Half-way Homes/Long Stay Homes/Day Care Centres in the national capital.
Social Welfare Minister Sandeep Kumar invited inputs from the participant experts and organisations over the same.
An official said that Delhi government is committed to running 5 halfway homes/day care facilities for the treated mentally ill referred by government hospitals.
The official also said that Halfway homes/ Day care centres are a means for reintegrating and mainstreaming persons recovered from mental illness back into the society, and such facilities help persons make the transition from institutional setting to community living in a gradual manner.
The homes would serve in rehabilitating such individuals, especially those without adequate family support, to gain their individual position in society and make a gainful living, the official said.
