New Delhi, Dec. 13 :Terming the anti-encroachment drive of the Indian Railways in Sahkur Basti “irresponsible”, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday said the Delhi Government is planning to stop demolition of slums, and it will announce a detailed plan.
“The demolition of slums shows irresponsible. The government is planning for rebuilding and shifting. These kinds of initiatives somewhere show inhumanity and insensitivity. We will talk to the Central Government about it,” Delhi’s Transport and Rural Development Minister Gopal Rai told the media here.
“The AAP Government is planning to stop demolition of slums, and it will announce the detailed plan,” he added.
Last night, more than 500 slums were demolished in an anti-encroachment drive conducted by the Indian Railways in Shakur Basti.
Slum residents alleged that their homes were demolished without any prior warning or notice. They said a girl also died when a piece of furniture fell on her, while the shanties were being bulldozed.
However, railway sources denied the allegations, saying the death of the child occurred in one of the slums around 10 a.m. and had nothing to do with the removal of encroachments.(ANI)
