Are AAP intrigues its return to power in the Capital?
Tingled by its bitter defeat in the elections, the party seems to be speaking in two voices on re-forming government in Delhi, with support from the Congress.
AAP MLA Rajesh Garg is the first who proposed the idea at a review meeting on Friday, found quite a few takers, including senior founding member Shazia Ilmi.
She admitted while speaking to ET that many MLAs and Lok Sabha candidates of the party were supporting the idea.
“I agree that AAP should form government and show what good and honest governance is all about. Our supporters did not approve of our decision to resign, but that was positive resentment. We can change that now,” she said.
However, the proposal might not pass muster at the meeting of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC), the highest decision-making body of the party. There are four PAC members who are not in favor of this, which includes Manish Sisodia, Prahsant Bhushan and Ashutosh.
“I don’t think there’s any question of seeking Congress’ support now as we had made it clear at the outset that we are not here for power politics. We want to change the system and our experience tells us that we can’t accomplish that with Congress’ support,” Bhushan said. Party ideologue Yogendra Yadav did not want to comment on the issue.
Out of 70, AAP had won 28 seats in the Delhi assembly elections. Although BJP had the largest number of seats, 32, AAP had formed government with the support of eight Congress MLAs.
This alliance, however, did not last long as party leader Arvind Kejriwal leave the job as the CM within 49 days of staying in power over the issue of passing the anti-corruption bill.
As said by Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed, “We haven’t received anything from them. What you are asking me is purely hypothetical and I do not wish to comment on it.”
