New Delhi: Seeking to play the Purvanchali card, the AAP today hit out at Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari and said the party’s strategy of distributing sweets to people for supporting demonitistion was like adding salt to wounds of those who have lost their jobs because of the move.
The party today fielded its three Purvanchali MLAs — Bandana Kumari, Akhilesh Pati Tripathi and Rajesh Rishi — at a press conference to attack Tiwari.
“Manoj Tiwari should know that the decision of demonitisation has hit the Purvanchalis bad. They have lost their jobs and over four lakh of them have fled Delhi. In this scenario, the BJP is distributing ladoos,” Tripathi, who represents Model Town constituency, said.
“Is Manoj Tiwari distributing ladoos because the Purvanchalis lost their jobs? We never expected that he would play such a cruel joke on Purvanchalis,” Kumari, who represents Shalimar Bagh constituency said.
Interestingly, Purvanchalis, those who hail from East Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar, are a sizable chunk in Delhi, which is being wooed by all parties – the AAP, BJP and the Congress. During the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP fielded Tiwari, a popular Bhojpuri actor and singer from Northwest Delhi, winning the seat.
Keeping the electoral balance in mind, the BJP chose Tiwari as the state president, ahead of the crucial MCD polls, especially at a time when the AAP recorded a studpendous victory winning 67 of 70 seats in 2015 assembly elections.
