New Delhi: With Amitabh Bachchan set to replace Aamir Khan as the brand ambassador of Incredible India campaign run by the Tourism Ministry, the Janata Dal (United) on Friday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Government for removing Khan and dubbed the move as ‘cultural intolerance’.
“Amitabh Bachhan is a great actor and I don’t have any objection on this name (for Incredible India campaign). But removing Aamir Khan shows a new kind of cultural intolerance,” JD (U) leader K.C. Tyagi told ANI.
“Aamir Khan was doing his job properly. The current government could not accept his comments, I condemn it,” he added.
Khan had yesterday said it was an honour for him to be the brand ambassador for the Incredible India campaign for the past 10 years and added that he would always be there for the service of the nation.
The Bollywood star’s comment came a day after a controversy erupted after a section of the media reported that the Central Government had removed him as the brand ambassador of the Incredible India campaign under the Tourism Ministry.
Minister of State for Tourism Mahesh Sharma, however, clarifying his ministry’s position on the issue yesterday said that it was purely a contractual matter with advertising agency McCann Worldgroup. (ANI)
