New Delhi, April 07: Bollywood star Aamir Khan is all set to don a new hat to create awareness about sanitation and hygiene issues among school children by becoming the brand ambassador of a new initiative.
The Ministry of HRD and Urban Development would jointly launch a School Sanitation project on April 27. Khan will the brand ambassador for the project, a ministry official said today.
The project is aimed at helping children to be cautious on health and hygiene. The project assumes significance in view of Unicef’s findings that diarrhoea claims about 1,000 children below five years every day in India.
Handwashing with soap can reduce diarrhoeal deaths in children by 40 per cent and is one of the most inexpensive ways to prevent diarrhoeal disease. Proper handling and safe storage of water reduces incidences of diarrhoea by nearly half, the Unicef has said.
