Karachi: Former Pakistan opener Aamer Sohail believes that newly appointed T20 skipper Sarfraz Ahmed should not be rushed into captaining in all the three formats of the game.
Insisting that he was not against giving Sarfraz captaincy, Sohail said that the Pakistan Cricket Board should first allow the 28-year-old to settle down in the T20 format, the Express Tribune reported.
Sohail’s comments came after former Pakistan greats suggested the appointment of Sarfraz as a skipper in all the format’s of the game.
Sarfraz, who is already captaining Pakistan’s ODI team, succeeded struggling all-rounder Shahid Afridi after he stepped down from his post following the side’s early exit from the recently-concluded World T20.
Suggesting the ways to improve Pakistan cricket, former southpaw Sohail said that the PCB should focus on improving players at the domestic level rather than appointing a new foreign coach to teach strategies to the existing players in the national squad.
The PCB had earlier announced that they were looking for a foreign head coach after Waqar Younis’ resignation from the post.(ANI)
