New Delhi: Income Tax Department is unlikely to extend the last date for linking Permanent Account Number (PAN) and Aadhaar beyond 31st August.
It is to be noted that earlier, taking into consideration the problems faced by taxpayers, the date of Aadhaar-PAN linking has been extended till 31st August. The deadline was extended as taxpayers were facing difficulties while linking Aadhaar number with PAN because of different names in two databases.
According to the news published in TOI, sources in the Income Tax Department said that the last date to link PAN and Aadhaar is unlikely to be extended further as enough time had been provided.
It may be mentioned that the verdict of Supreme Court on privacy as a fundamental right triggered debate on the impact of PAN and Aadhaar linking.
However, Ajay Bhushan Pandey, CEO of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) said that taxpayers should link PAN and Aadhaar before 31st August and verdict of SC on privacy is not likely to impact the process of linking.
