Hyderabad: Over 2,500 students from 28 states attend a seminar on National Education Policy, which is increasingly seeing privatization and saffronization, at Nampally Exhibition Grounds on Wednesday.
Professor Ram Punyani and former IAS officer who resigned in protest of Article 370, Kanan Gopinathan, were among the prominent personalities who addressed the students. Worrisome trends that spell trouble for students who are under-privileged and first-generation learners were discussed. For instance, 38 lakh students were awarded scholarships in 2014.
That number has now been reduced to 12 lakh.
Alongside other detrimental policy measures, the growing presence of right-wing ideologues being appointed as lecturers at universities found mention.
