99 per cent Pakistanis are good: Katju

Markandey Katju, former Supreme Court judge and exchairman of the Press Council of India (PCI) said 99 per cent of Pakistanis are good and only a few of them, who are tainted by society, opt to do bad things.

Katju, recently known for his controversial remarks on sensitive issues, made the on Facebook.

Katju, a humble disciple of the great French thinker Rousseau, said:

“I have repeatedly said 99 per cent of Pakistanis (like Indians) are good people. In response to my statements, some of you have furiously attacked me saying we can never be friends with Pakistanis and that they (Pakistanis) are barbarians and terrorist”.

The former judge said his teacher always taught him that people were good by nature and his experiences with life which had proved the truth in Rousseau’s statement.

His teacher also taught him that good people are often corrupted by society and wicked people and that is why some Pakistanis do bad things (like some Indians).

“So, I often get sad and exasperated when you people make such silly comments. I am your teacher who wishes to teach you the truth and good things. I am your teacher not because I am inherently superior in intellect to you but because of the knowledge that I acquired after tremendous study for over half a century,” Katju’s post on Facebook said.

Markandey Katju retired as the chairman of the PCI on October 5 2014.
