9461 bind over cases filed ahead of Kadapa bypolls

Kadapa, April 26: District authorities today informed that so far 119 vehicles have been impounded and Rs 1.93 crore seized in Kadapa district where bypolls will be held on May 8.

District Collector and Returning Officer Sasi Bhusan Kumar said in a press release today that so far 9461 bind over cases have been filed in the limits of the district.

Under bind over cases, magistrates can bind over to be of good behaviour or to keep the peace, any person such as a defendant, witness or complainant. This may happen where the case involves violence or the threat of it.

Ahead of the bypolls to Kadapa Lok Sabha seat and Pulivendula assembly constituency, 1240 licensed weapons have been deposited while 16 unlicensed weapons were seized, the collector said adding that a cache of 1248 gelatin sticks, 1000 detonators, 4 crude bombs have been seized by police.

The bypolls were necessitated following resignations by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and his mother Vijayalakshmi from the Congress party. Jagan, son of former chief minister Y S Rajsekhara Reddy floated his own outfit YSR Congress Party to take on the Congress in the state.

42 candidates are in fray for the by-election to Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency and 25 for Pulivendula Assembly seat.
