Hajj quota slashed, thousands of aspirants likely to face disappointment

Hajj quota for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh has been announced for Hajj 2016. Telangana got 2532 Hajj seats while Andhra Pradesh got 2052 seats. Both the states had expected that the hajj quota will be increased this Hajj season. But instead of increasing the quota, Central Hajj Committee has slashed quota for both the states. Telangana has got 220 less than the previous year while Andhra Pradesh has got 193 seats less than the previous year.

Central Hajj Committee informed State Hajj Committee about the quota allotment. Special Officer Hajj Committee Prof. S A Shukoor told that date of drawing of lot has been changed due to delay in allotment of Hajj quota by Central Hajj committee. After consultation with State Hajj Committee, Central Hajj Committee has rescheduled drawing of lots on March 22 instead of March 20. A total of 136030 Hajj seats have been allotted to Central Hajj Committee by Saudi government of which 36000 have been allotted to private tour operators.
