New Delhi: With the thick blanket of dense fog enveloping the national capital on Sunday morning, cold wave seems to have gripped the region, hampering connectivity.
The teeth chattering cold has approached the National-Capital Region (NCR) and gets to extreme especially during morning and late evening hours.
With visibility varying from as low as zero to 50 meters at different places, rail, road and air services have been disrupted.
The buses on the highways are moving at slower speed, especially during early morning hours and late evening hours.
A total of 90 trains have been delayed, 28 rescheduled and 4 cancelled due to extremely low visibility.
Even air traffic has been affected by prevailing fog, with one international and seven domestic flights delayed and four domestic flights have been cancelled.
The cold wave has also begun its onslaught in Northern India by claiming 16 lives in Uttar Pradesh. Also, due to dense fog, 13 people lost their lives in a road accident.
As per meteorological department, the national capital will be engulfed by fog for next three days. Pollution levels are also expected to drop after three days.
Apart from national capital, other northern states such as Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar are also experiencing chilling winters with thick fog encompassing the regions.
