New Delhi: A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her uncle at his residence in northwest Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area, police said today.
The 44-year-old accused was arrested by the police and booked for rape, criminal intimidation and relevant sections of the POCSO Act, a senior official said.
The incident was reported yesterday afternoon when the girl was alone at her home and the accused — who lives a few houses away in the same slum cluster — came and offered her a ten-rupee note to buy chocolates and allegedly lured her to his shanty, where he forced himself upon her, he said.
He also allegedly threatened the girl of dire consequences if she reported the matter to anyone.
The girl later narrated her ordeal to her mother, who called up the police control room. The girl was taken for medical examination, which confirmed rape, and the accused was arrested immediately, the official said.
During investigation, it also emerged that the accused allegedly used to show her obscene pictures forcefully, but she did not disclose that to anyone, fearing that the man would harm her.
The girl was later counselled by an NGO in the presence of her mother, the official added.
