Following failure of Northern Power Grid, 9 passenger trains were cancelled, one express train was diverted while 17 mail trains reached Ambala Cantonment station late by 1 to 6.45 hours today. The passengers remained stranded due to cancellation of trains and also late arrival both of Up and Down trains. However, the running of trains was restored at around 12 in the noon after the snag in the Grid was removed. All the nine passenger trains running between Ambala-Kurukshetra, Ambala-Nangal, Ambala-Amritsar, Ambala-Delhi, Saharanpur-Ludhiana were cancelled and no trains left Ambala for their destination today. Daily passengers who go to different stations of their employment remained stranded and had to go by road. One express train Amarpali was diverted via Jakhal to reach Delhi. Seventeen express trains on both sides reached Ambala late by 1 hour to 6.45 hrs. Jan Sewa Express running between Amritsar-Saharsa arrived late by 6.45 hours while Dadar express was late by 6 hours. Amritsar-New Delhi Superfast and New Delhi-Kalka Sperfast were late by 4.40 and 4.30 hours respectively. Ambala Railway Divisional Manager Pradep Gandhi said that a total of 27 trains including express trains were affected. However, the railways had to cancel 9 passenger trains. He said that the passengers were informed about the arrival of trains through public address system. The electric trains were run by pressing diesel engines in service. UNI
