9 accused in Obama loan case face arraignment

Davenport (Iowa), May 24: Nine people accused of accessing President Barack Obama’s student loan records while employed by a Department of Education contractor in Iowa are to be arraigned on federal charges.

The former employees of Vangent Incorporation are accused of accessing Obama’s records at the contractor’s office in Coralville while he was either a candidate for president, president-elect or president.

They are charged with exceeding authorized computer access. Their arraignment planned for today at the US District Court in Davenport, Iowa.

The charge is punishable by up to one year in prison and a fine of up to USD 100,000.

Authorities have not said why they sought access to the records of if they used the information in any way.
