New Delhi: A total of 9.2 lakh minority community members were employed with Central government and its institutions/enterprises as on March this year, Lok Sabha was informed today. Replying to a query in this regard, Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs (Independent Charge) Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said 9,20,641 persons belonging to minority communities were employed with 16 central ministries/department in A, B, C and D groups as on March 31, 2016. Of these, 14,644 were employed during 2015-16.
“The data on recruitment of minorities in Central government shows steady increase in the representation of minorities from 6.24 per cent in the year 2011-12 to 8.56 per cent in 2014-15 (for 79 Central Ministries/departments),” Naqvi said.
There are six minority communities: Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Zoroastrians (Parsis) and Jains.
