Washington: A Syrian-born German national, Mohammed Haydar Zammar, accused of being linked with the planning of September 11, attacks in the United States in 2001, has been arrested by a Kurdish military commander based in Syria.
“He was captured more than a month ago by SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) partners as part of their ongoing operations to defeat ISIS inside Syria,” the Kurdish Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG) commander, requesting anonymity confirmed on Thursday.

According to a report by Al-Jazeera, Zammar was previously questioned by German police after 9/11 attacks, where around 3,000 people were killed. During the attack, two planes had hit twin towers of World Trade Centre in New York and one had hit Washington’s Pentagon.
Zammar has been suspected by the US authorities to have recruited Mohammed Atta, an Egyptian national who was one of the pilots involved in the attacks.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon said it had nothing to confirm about the matter at this time.
