Dhanbad: Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu on Saturday expressed concerned that 89 per cent of the state’s people suffer from deficiency of Vitamin D and said that she would ask the government to initiate immediate and proper step for addressing the problem.
“It is shocking that 89 per cent people of state are suffering from deficiency of Vitamin D. I would put the matter before the state government and ask them to initiate necessary action specially in remote villages for bailing out the victims,” Murmu said.
The Governor was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the annual conference of Jharkhand Orthopaedics Association here.
Murmu called upon the doctors fraternity to discharge their duties with honesty and a feeling of service in mind.
She also advised doctors to spend maximum time in villages where they are regarded as God.
President of Jharkhand Orthopaedics Association Dr DP Bhushan said that Vitamin D is essential for strong bones and its deficiency could lead to skeletal deformities.
Over 200 orthopaedics of Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Karnataka are participating in the conference.
