881 schools in Adilabad have one teacher each

It may be unbelievable but as many as 881 primary and upper primary schools in Adilabad district have just one teacher each, which actually requires at least 2,000 more teachers.

There are 3,961 primary and upper primary schools comprising of nearly 3.35 lakhs of students. In Adilabad town alone, six schools are managed by single teachers includes 50-120 students from Class I to VII in each of these schools.

“If the teacher goes on leave for personal reasons or office work, it will be a holiday for the students,” said a teacher’. “Due to this, quality, education has become a mirage for the students. The previous governments (in the united AP) did not even appoint Vidya Volunteers in the past three years,” said Progressive Democratic Students’ Union district general secretary C Chanti.

United Teachers’ Federation district general secretary A Venkati alleged that the government was neglecting primary education and pointed out that a teacher is forced to teach eight subjects.
