88 killed in four separate car bombings in Baghdad

Baghdad: At least 88 people have lost their lives in four separate car bombings in Iraq’s capital Baghdad.

According to police sources, the deadliest attack took place in Sadr City neighbourhood when an explosive-laden vehicle blew off at a busy market, killing 61 people and injuring nearly 100 others.

It is also reported that most of the victims were women.

While the other blasts rocked three separate districts in Baghdad, killing at least 27 people.

The blasts took place at police checkpoints in predominantly Shia, Kadhimiyah and Hurriyah districts, and Jamiyah district. Islamic State terror group (ISIL) has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The Iraqi army recently announced a military operation to recapture the town, which fell to ISIL in 2014.

In the past two weeks, ISIL has claimed responsibility for two attacks targeting the Shia community in Baghdad. (ANI)
