In yet another incident that questions the safety of senior citizens in the national capital, an 81-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her domestic help in the posh Greater Kailash-II locality, as per reports on Wednesday.
The victim, Rekha Duggal, was reportedly strangled by her 21-year-old domestic help Neeraj Saki who then tried to burn the body on Monday evening.
The incident came to light after Neeraj informed the neighbours that the victim had gone missing. The neighbours then informed Duggal’s daughter and son-in-law who found her body lying in the bedroom in the second floor flat of the same building.
The flat was on fire and the semi-burnt body of the victim with a burnt duppata around her neck was found on the bed.
Initially suspected to be a case of accident, the murder came to light after the post-mortem report confirmed strangulation.
The victim stayed alone at her ground floor flat along with her two domestic helps after the death of her husband KK Duggal in 2005 who was a senior journalist.
The accused was arrested after he confessed that the body was set on fire deliberately to hide the incident.
