81 injured in Jallikatu

Pudukottai, March 02: At least 81 people, including both bull fighters and spectators were injured during a jallikattu event at Kovilur village in Alangudi taluk today. The event was organized as part of the celebration of “Maasi Maha” festival at the famous Arulmigu Muthumariamman temple at Kovilur village. A total of 392 ferocious bulls from Pudukottai, Tiruchy, Thanjavur, Madurai, Dindigul and Sivaganga districts and 96 bull fighters participated in the event.

Over 250 police personnel led by Pudukottai SP P Moorthy were deployed at the venue to provide security and regulate the crowd. Eighten people who were seriously injured were admitted to Pudukottai GH. Those who sustained minor injuries were treated by a medical team present on the venue.
