80,000 people notified by University of California of cyber attack

New York : The University of California Berkeley has notified 80,000 people of a possible cyber attack on a system that stores social security and bank account numbers.

The University reported about an incident when a hacker gained access to its financial management software due to a security flaw in the system in December last year, Reuters reported.

“The security and privacy of the personal information provided to the university is of great importance to us. We regret that this occurred and have taken additional measures to better safeguard that information,” said Paul Rivers, UC Berkeley’s chief information security officer.

The university further said among those potentially affected are current and former students, faculty and vendors who work at school. (ANI)
