8 killed in Hazaribagh road accident

Eight people, including a woman, were killed and 20 others injured today when a mini-truck carrying labourers hit a tree at Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district, police said.

The accident took place when the driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a turn and it hit the tree after falling in a ditch at Fataf forest in Pelawal area,Sub-divisional Officer (Hazaribagh Sadar) Rajiv Ranjan said.

Six people, including a woman, died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries in Hazaribagh Sadar
Hospital.

Of the 20 injured, 16 were in serious condition and were taken to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi,
Ranjan said.

The victims were on their way from Barkagaon to Hazaribagh to join a road construction work and the incident
occurred barely 12 km away from this district headquarter town.

The district administration has handed over Rs 5,000 each as immediate relief to kin of the deceased family under Family welfare scheme of the government.

The driver of the vehicle managed to escape.

The impact with the vehicle was so severe that the tree has been uprooted.
