8 killed, 32 injured in road mishap in Poonch

Poonch(J&K), November 10: Eight persons including two women and a four-month-old baby were killed and 32 others injured, some of them seriously, when a matador in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into Trungli river in Poonch district here today.

The over-loaded matador, which was on its way from Noona Bandi to Poonch, skidded off the road at Bandi Chachian, about 230 kms from Jammu, and rolled down about 60-feet deep into the river, officials said.

Three passengers died on the spot, while five others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital, they said, adding that 32 persons also sustained injuries.

The deceased included two women identified as Shamshad Begum and Noora Akhtar and a four-month baby, they said.

All the injured were rushed initially to district hospital at Poonch.
